Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray Key’) is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal Life Force Energy’, an energy that is all around us; it is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved from Dr. Mikao Usui.
Put simply, Reiki is a healing technique that promotes balance within our whole system – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Reiki is a natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can benefit from.
Reiki works on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels and allows the energy to flow through us and help our bodies to self-heal depending on what the body needs healing from, which may be different to what we initially think we need.
I have used Reiki to support people with:

- End of life care, including the transition between living and dying

I offer these treatments from the comfort of my own home in the Isle of Lewis. I am also able to arrange personal visits and sessions within day centres and care homes if individual(s) are not able to travel.
My Reiki Journey
I trained as a Reiki practitioner through Victoria Mulhearn, completing my First Degree Reiki (2005), Second Degree Reiki (2006) and Advanced Second Degree Reiki (2007 and 2016) at Lendrick Lodge.
Learning Reiki has given me a sense of purpose in my life, it has provided me with wisdom, energy, and a tool to heal myself and others. It has created an abundance of love, healing, spiritual awakening and compassion in my life and has given me the opportunity to nourish and nurture myself and those around me, bringing love and light to family, friends and clients.
Learning Reiki has been one of the best experiences of my life, however using it to bring healing, peace and joy to others is a complete blessing. There are many wonderful benefits of Reiki.
The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The client remains fully clothed and lies on a Reiki bed or sits on a chair and relaxes. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation involved. Reiki works directly on restoring the balance on all levels, therefore the whole person is treated.
No two sessions of Reiki are the same because we are constantly changing energetically. Some people experience profound sensations during Reiki and others simply have a deep sense of calmness. During a Reiki session, you may (or may not) experience:
- Energy as visions or colours
- Areas of heat or coldness
- Bodily sensations, including: tingling, pressure or movement under the skin
- A sense of clarity or understanding
- Deep love and gratitude
- Spiritual connection
- Emotional release
- Easing or eradication of pain or discomfort
- Deep sense of relaxation
- Increased energy
Reiki can be beneficial in circumstances that are short term and can also support people dealing with long-term conditions, helping to bring comfort, acceptance and a more positive outlook.
As with most things in life, timing is a key factor when healing with Reiki. If you are living with a long-term condition, or with prolonged symptoms, you are likely to need more than one Reiki session in order for there to be enough Reiki to raise the vibrational field so that the body can self-heal and the organs start to vibrate again at their optimum frequency. This requires time, however the healing and curing can and does occur with Reiki.
