By your side for bump, birth and baby!
I am so delighted to be qualified as a Wise Hippo Birthing Instructor (the training of which is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives). I am available to support women and their birth partners in the Western Isles with bump, birth and baby.
Through The Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, I will teach you how to become an expert in relaxation. We believe that a positive birth experience is a state of mind, it’s not necessarily defined by what happens during labour and birth but rather, by how a woman feels about her baby’s birth.
As a mother myself, I know from experience how it feels to have a positive birth experience – to feel empowered in my body, in my baby and to know that all choices in my pregnancy and birth are mine. I want to share this possibility, this opportunity, this truly empowering feeling with more mothers. I am an expert in relaxation and have lived and breathed my baby into this world using self-hypnosis techniques.
“I’d go as far as saying the course is a real life changer. It has left me feeling calmer, happier, more relaxed and confident.” Joanne MacDonald
What I will teach you through The Wise Hippo is empowering. I will give you and your birth partner the tools and techniques to take control of your birth experience, to have the confidence to ask appropriate questions and to make choices based on what is right for you and your baby.
I teach my clients that the perfect birth is one in which the couple look back and know that all decisions were theirs. The perfect birth is one in which the parents felt they were always in control, even if that means making the decision to hand over to the experts due to special circumstances. What I teach is that the perfect birth is the right birth on the day.
I appreciate that every woman (and indeed every couple) has unique needs, wants and concerns about their baby’s birth and therefore I teach with this in mind. You are the expert in your body and your baby, and I will help enable each woman to prepare for their baby’s birth in a way that feels right for them.
My Wise Hippo Birthing Programme is a complete 12 hour programme that I run as 4 x 3 hour classes. An in-depth workbook and 5 amazing mp3s are provided to our expectant clients to support their practice at home. These are amazing tools that you can be using throughout bump, birth, baby and beyond – they really are tools for life!
“Since completing all 4 classes my husband and I have been practicing everything we have been taught and we now both feel really excited, confident and ready for the birth of our baby. If we had not done this course we would most likely be feeling quite anxious after having a bad experience last time.” Joanne MacDonald
The Wise Hippo Birthing Instructors don’t get 100% feedback that births played out in the way that was always desired (although sometimes we do) but we do get 100% feedback that the techniques that we teach are empowering, useful and supportive no matter what.
Small group classes: £300 (for expectant mother & birth partner)

“After just completing class 1 of The Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, both myself and my husband feel we have already gained so much. We are very much looking forward to writing our ideal birth story especially after experiencing quite a traumatic birth with our little girl. The tools Heather taught us – ‘Cloak of Protection’ and ‘Thought Exchange’ – I can only describe as life changing. I will certainly be working on these so they become part of my daily life.”

“Having just completed class 2 with Heather all I can say is wow. I have never experienced that level of relaxation to the point I was enjoying it so much I was reluctant to come out of that hypnotic state during the Birth Partners Script.”
“After completing class 2 I feel much more confident in my ability to relax. Heather has given me this confidence through her patience and fun way of teaching. I feel this course is not only working towards a more relaxed, confident birth but also a more relaxed confident me.”

“We found week 3 to be very informative, for example your feelings and emotions have an effect on your baby. I had never heard this and it’s really made me think. This ties in well with all the relaxing MP3 which come as part of the course. I have been using them a lot and as a result I already feel like a more relaxed, happy person, something I had not considered would be a side effect of the course. Plus, knowing this is also helping my baby feel happy is wonderful.”
“We chatted about our birthing plan which was really nice and has helped make it clear for both myself and my husband what is important for us and our baby. Heather was fantastic at answering any of our questions, she is very knowledgeable in this field and obviously spent a lot of time considering options for the birth of her own child.”
- Soothing strokes and the power of positive touch
- Positions for birth
- Ligaments and pelvis
- Humming your baby down – birthing your baby

“Both my husband and I found class 4 full of incredibly useful advice from soothing strokes to humming your baby down. The birth partner’s role was fantastic, it was broken down into different sections, with different expectations listed which picked up on things that both of us would never have thought of but will make a huge difference to my own comfort and birth on the day.”
“We finished with the sea of serenity which I found so relaxing I fell asleep during it. I will be practicing this regularly.”
